Medical Affairs has moved from support function to strategic differentiator, but the post-pandemic environment raises the bar again. Healthcare systems face budget pressure, operational backlogs, tougher scrutiny of value, changing stakeholder expectations and a loss of the traditional biopharma evidence monopoly. IQVIA argues that Medical Affairs is uniquely positioned to respond because it combines scientific credibility, external relationships and ownership of the evidence agenda. The next step is to broaden from product-centric activity toward healthcare-system partnership: enabling care pathways to adopt innovation, improving patient journeys and helping systems use capacity and resources more effectively. Real-world evidence becomes a key enabler of trusted collaboration. To deliver this, Medical Affairs must act as the bridge across R&D, Commercial, Market Access and HEOR, strengthen healthcare-system insight and business acumen, and be given the organisational authority to lead cross-functional partnerships.
